Lisa Kerker

The Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings has now been ratified by 10 States. Cyprus was the 10th state to deposit a ratification of the Convention. It will enter into force on 1 February 2008. The Convention has, besides Cyprus, been ratified by Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Georgia, Moldova, Romania and Slovakia, and signed by 27 other Member States. Implementation of the Convention will be monitored through a quasi-judicial monitoring mechanism, the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA), consisting of 10-15 members. This group will be established within one year following the entry into force of the Convention. For more information please click here.
